The lightweight factory skid plates provide basic coverage, but drivers who regularly encounter rocks and ledges may want a more substantial barrier between the trail and the vehicle’s undercarriage. Factory UTV molds its armor to follow the YXZ1000R’s belly lines while wrapping vulnerable leading edges that can otherwise catch on obstacles.

Why Factory UTV Uses UHMW
UHMW stands for ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. The material is well suited to UTV underbody protection because it combines impact resistance with a low-friction surface. Instead of digging into a rock in the manner that damaged or heavily gouged metal can, UHMW can help the vehicle slide across an obstacle.
UHMW is also lighter than comparable metal armor and does not rust. Its ability to flex and absorb impacts makes it particularly useful for protecting the floor, driveline, fuel tank and other components positioned above the skid plate.
Available Thickness and A-Arm Options
Factory UTV currently lists the Yamaha YXZ1000R Ultimate Skid Package in both 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch UHMW. The company also offers configurations for the stock Yamaha A-arms and certain aftermarket long-travel suspension systems.
The current listed fitment is for 2016-and-newer Yamaha YXZ1000R models. Owners should confirm the model year, suspension configuration, UHMW thickness and current availability before ordering—especially if the vehicle has aftermarket A-arms or a long-travel kit.
