High Lifter wasted little time transforming the then-new 2011 Polaris RZR XP 900 into a purpose-built mud machine. Selected as our UTV of the Month for February 2011, the build featured a prototype 5-inch High Lifter suspension lift and a set of massive 28-inch Radial Outlaw tires.
The first-generation RZR XP 900 arrived with an 88-horsepower ProStar engine and a long-travel suspension platform that represented a major performance jump for the Polaris RZR lineup. High Lifter’s modifications took that platform in a different direction, adding the clearance and aggressive tire package needed for deep mud and rutted trails.
High Lifter planned to bring the completed RZR XP 900 to the 2011 Mud Nationals, where we would get a closer look at the prototype lift and learn more about the company’s plans for the new RZR platform.

Prototype 5-Inch Lift Kit
The prototype High Lifter suspension kit raised the RZR XP 900 approximately five inches, creating enough clearance for the 28-inch Radial Outlaw tires. The additional ride height also gave the machine the aggressive stance expected from a High Lifter mud build.
High Lifter 28-Inch Radial Outlaw Tires
The 28-inch Radial Outlaw was designed to generate strong forward traction in mud while retaining useful grip on mixed terrain. Its sharply angled tread bars use a cupped leading edge to produce a paddle-like effect in soft conditions.
Extensive siping provides thousands of additional biting edges. The sipes meet the trail at a 90-degree angle to improve traction on slick surfaces, while alternating lugs extend approximately three inches down the sidewall. That extended tread area can help the tire find traction against the sides of ruts and on exposed rocks. The Radial Outlaw uses a six-ply radial construction.
