December 2011 Run on the Rubicon Trail – Loon Lake in the Distance
Northern California has had a real dry Fall this year. I had a report from another UTV enthusiast that had been on the Rubicon a few weeks earlier and had made it to Spider Lake. That was enough info for me! My buddy Dave loaded up our Kawasaki Teryx and Polaris RZR XP and headed for the trailhead at Loon Lake. It was a Monday, and we only ran into one other person on the trail. High temperature for the day was 35. Very little snow, but we did run into several icy areas. Most notable was at the top of Walker Hill (see video below). The climb over some rocks spanned the entire width of the trail and was like a river of ice. Super slippery!
