UTV of the Month for May 2011
With the New Year’s Day release of the all new Polaris RZR 900 XP everyone knew that it would not be long before these awesome machines started to appear at racing venues everywhere. Jagged X was immediately on a quest to create the next level in desert racing UTVs.
The first couple months of this project was a seemingly never ending process of planning, measuring, designing and arguing. There was much debate among the team before a final working concept was settled on. Soon a stack of Chromoly tubing and plate began to take shape and they knew that this project was going to come together in a big way.
The guys at Cutting Edge Manufacturing were a huge help with their CAD design and laser cutting abilities. All the pieces were fitting together nicely. Every aspect of this new vehicle was addressed in some way. As the various systems came together the only thing they knew for sure was that they were running out of time. The long nights started and did not end until the last hour before the BITD Bilek Silver State 300.
The team turned the key to fire the motor for the first time on Friday April 29 at noon. Tech day for the Silver State 300. They were off to Las Vegas with a total test session being one lap around the parking lot. They slid into the parking lot at the Aliante Station with just enough time for Brandon to sprint to the mandatory drivers meeting. After passing Tech inspection they headed to the hotel where the team spent the next several hours making adjustments and finishing up some last minute details.
Jagged X brought home a second place at the Silver State 300 and were just seconds behind first place. Pretty incredible considering this was their first race in the new car with literally no testing. The second race of the season was the Bluewater Gran Prix where they pulled off another second.
Next up for the team is 2011 Vegas to Reno desert race. This is the longest desert race in the United States and they have won this race an incredible four years in a row. With a few months to do more testing and tuning on the car, you better watch out. Jagged X is always well prepared and have a great pit crew in place so they will be hard to beat.
