Lakeside Lodge and Resort combines Island Park UTV riding with a waterfront place to stay in eastern Idaho. Located on Island Park Reservoir, the resort offers Can-Am side-by-side rentals, direct access to the surrounding trail network and lodging options for couples, families and larger groups.

Can-Am UTV Rentals in Island Park
The lodge advertises access to more than 500 miles of trails in the greater Yellowstone region, with riding available directly from the property. Its UTV rental page lists a four-seat Can-Am Commander and a Can-Am Defender with room for six, described by the outfitter as four adults and two children.

Lakeside currently lists a minimum renter age of 21, a minimum driver age of 18 and a valid U.S. driver’s license requirement. Helmets are provided. Confirm rates, passenger requirements, rental duration and availability directly with the outfitter before reserving.
Island Park Riding and Scenic Stops
Forest roads, mountain scenery and waterside stops make Island Park a destination where you can build a day around exploring. Ask the rental staff to suggest an itinerary suited to your experience, group and available time, including approved routes and places to stop.
Sawtell Peak
Sawtell Peak was a highlight of the original destination feature, with mountain views overlooking the Island Park area and a radar installation near the summit. Before making it part of your trip, ask the outfitter about current road access, snow conditions and whether the route is approved for your rental vehicle.
Big Springs and Mesa Falls
Lakeside lists Big Springs, Mesa Falls and Mack’s Inn among the area’s destinations. These stops offer ways to break up a day of exploring, but confirm the connecting roads and permitted access with the outfitter rather than assuming every attraction is reached by an unrestricted UTV route.
Mesa Falls access update — September 2026: The Forest Service announced an Upper Mesa Falls area closure beginning August 10, 2026, for renovations expected to continue into winter. Lower Mesa Falls was identified as an alternative during the project. Trail Maps and Ride Planning
Lakeside’s UTV page links to Island Park North and South recreation maps for the Avenza Maps app. Download maps before leaving reliable service and review your planned ride with the rental staff.
For national forest travel, also consult the Caribou-Targhee National Forest maps and guides. The Forest Service’s Motor Vehicle Use Map identifies roads and trails open to public motor vehicle use. Check route designations and seasonal restrictions for the vehicle you are driving, along with current closures.
Pack water, snacks, eye protection and layers for changing mountain weather. Allow time for scenic stops and the return trip, and use the vehicle’s seat belts and supplied helmets throughout the ride.
Lodging on Island Park Reservoir
Lakeside offers motel rooms, cabins, larger luxury cabins, an RV campground and tent campsites. Accommodations are within walking distance of the lodge, with settings ranging from reservoir views to sites tucked among the pines. Its restaurant and tavern provide an on-site option after a day outdoors; check current hours when planning your stay.
Boating and Sea-Doo Rentals
A stay at Lakeside can include a day on Island Park Reservoir as well as time on the trails. The resort lists boats, Sea-Doo personal watercraft, kayaks and paddleboards among its summer rentals, allowing a group to mix motorized recreation with quieter time on the water.
