STI Tire & Wheel brought its newly introduced Roctane XD tire and HD Beadlock wheel to Moab, Utah, for the fourth annual Rally on the Rocks in May 2013. The combination was displayed on our heavily modified 2011 Kawasaki Teryx, which also spent three days tackling some of Moab’s best-known trails.

The Old Spanish Trail Arena served as event headquarters, with organized trail rides departing throughout the week and UTV manufacturers and aftermarket companies displaying products inside and outside the facility.
STI used the event to showcase its Roctane XD radial tire and HD Beadlock wheel. Moab’s sandstone ledges, steep climbs and high-traction slickrock made Rally on the Rocks a natural setting for a tire developed around durability and rock-crawling performance.
UTV Guide Kawasaki Teryx in Moab
Our 2011 Kawasaki Teryx project was parked in the STI display when it was not on the trail. The modified Teryx combined long-travel suspension, a Muzzys 916cc V-twin and extensive rock-crawling protection with 30x10R14 STI Roctane XD tires mounted on beadlock wheels.
The 30-inch tires provided additional ground clearance for ledges and breakovers without being as large or heavy as some of the more extreme tire combinations we had previously tested. That made the setup well suited to the mixture of technical crawling and connecting trails encountered around Moab.
Three Days on Moab Trails
During the event, we drove the Teryx on Behind the Rocks, Hell’s Revenge, Steel Bender and Cliff Hanger. Those routes included steep slickrock climbs, sharp descents, rocky ledges and scenic overlooks above the surrounding desert.
Rally on the Rocks also gave UTV owners an opportunity to join guided rides appropriate for different experience levels. Manufacturers offered demo rides, while aftermarket companies displayed and installed tires, wheels, protection, communication equipment and other trail accessories at the arena.
