2013 Polaris UTV Lineup: RANGER and RZR Models

2013 Polaris RANGER Lineup

The 2013 Polaris UTV lineup introduced two important RANGER models and expanded an already broad selection of RZR sport side-by-sides. The completely redesigned RANGER XP 900 was the biggest news, bringing a new ProStar engine, new chassis and substantially improved cab design to Polaris’ full-size utility family. The new RANGER 800 EFI Midsize placed the company’s 50-horsepower twin-cylinder engine in a smaller two-seat platform.

Polaris also updated the RZR family with a new RZR 570 Trail Limited Edition, revised RZR 800 suspension and a Walker Evans Limited Edition version of the RZR XP 900.

What Was New in the 2013 Polaris UTV Lineup?

The major additions and updates for model year 2013 included:

  • An all-new full-size Polaris RANGER XP 900
  • The new RANGER 800 EFI Midsize
  • A RZR 570 Trail Limited Edition with EPS, Engine Braking System and VersaTrac Turf Mode
  • A RZR XP 900 Walker Evans Limited Edition with large-diameter Walker Evans shocks
  • Dual-rate springs for the RZR 800
  • Numerous color and equipment packages across the RANGER and RZR families

The lineup ranged from narrow 50-inch trail machines and high-performance sport models to work-oriented RANGERs, multi-passenger CREW models and the battery-powered RANGER EV.

2013 Polaris RANGER XP 900

The 2013 RANGER XP 900 represented much more than an engine upgrade. Polaris developed a new full-size chassis and moved the engine from beneath the seat to a position under the rear cargo box. That change helped reduce heat and noise in the cab while creating additional storage beneath the flip-up seat.

The 875cc twin-cylinder ProStar engine produced a claimed 60 horsepower. Polaris paired it with a strengthened drivetrain, improved clutch cooling and a belt designed to handle the additional output.

Work ratings included a 1,000-pound cargo-box capacity and 2,000-pound towing capacity. The redesigned cargo box gained additional tie-down locations, provisions for dividers and compatibility with Lock & Ride accessories.

The XP 900 also introduced the PRO-FIT cab framework. Profiled roll-cage tubing provided a defined sealing surface for compatible windshields, roofs, doors and rear panels. This concept became increasingly important as enclosed and climate-controlled RANGER models evolved in later years.

The XP 900 would become one of the most significant generations in Polaris RANGER history, combining genuine utility capacity with considerably better performance and recreational capability than earlier work-focused UTVs.

2013 Polaris RANGER Lineup

The RANGER family covered several distinct applications and vehicle sizes for 2013.

Full-Size RANGER Models

The new RANGER XP 900 joined the returning RANGER 800 EFI and RANGER Diesel in the full-size category. The RANGER 800 remained the established gasoline-powered workhorse, while the Diesel served agricultural, commercial and other customers who valued diesel fuel compatibility and low-speed working capability.

Midsize RANGER Models

The new RANGER 800 EFI Midsize delivered a claimed 50 horsepower in a smaller two-seat chassis designed to fit in the bed of many full-size pickup trucks. It offered a 500-pound cargo-box capacity, 1,000-pound payload rating and 1,250-pound towing capacity.

Its On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive and VersaTrac system allowed the driver to choose additional traction or unlock the rear differential for tighter turns and less damage to sensitive ground.

The RANGER 500 EFI, RANGER 400 and electric RANGER EV completed the midsize offering.

Multi-Passenger RANGER Models

Polaris continued to offer the RANGER CREW Diesel, RANGER CREW 800 and RANGER CREW 500 for customers who needed to transport additional passengers. Limited Edition packages were also available on selected XP 900, 800 EFI, 800 Midsize, 500 EFI and CREW models.

2013 Polaris RZR Lineup

The 2013 Polaris RZR lineup covered narrow trails, general recreation, four-seat use and high-performance riding. It included the RZR 570, RZR 800, RZR S 800, RZR 4 800, RZR XP 900 and RZR XP 4 900.

RZR 570 Trail Limited Edition

The new RZR 570 Trail Limited Edition added electronic power steering, an Engine Braking System and VersaTrac Turf Mode. The engine-braking system helped provide controlled deceleration on descents, while Turf Mode unlocked the rear differential to make tighter turns and reduce tire damage to sensitive surfaces.

The Trail Limited Edition also received a glove box, high- and low-beam headlights and removable waterproof storage beneath the front access panel.

RZR XP 900 Walker Evans Limited Edition

At the performance end of the range, Polaris introduced a RZR XP 900 Walker Evans Limited Edition with EPS. Its equipment included 2.5-inch Walker Evans shocks, Maxxis Bighorn tires, black Crusher wheels, upgraded seats and model-specific graphics.

Other changes to the 900-class RZRs included easier shifting out of Park, a wet-sump engine that simplified oil changes and a flatter rear cargo box.

RZR 800 Suspension Updates

The original 50-inch RZR 800 received dual-rate suspension springs intended to maintain ground clearance more consistently with different passenger and cargo loads. Polaris also introduced revised seat belts across the RZR family and offered Indy Red as a standard color.

2013 Polaris RZR Limited Editions

The extensive Limited Edition selection included special colors and equipment for nearly every major RZR platform:

  • RZR 570: Trail Limited Edition with EPS, EBS and Turf Mode
  • RZR 800: Nuclear Sunset, Sunset Red, Polaris Pursuit Camo and Blue Fire editions with EPS
  • RZR S 800: Blue Fire/Orange and Orange/White editions
  • RZR 4 800: Blue Fire/Orange edition with EPS
  • RZR XP 900: Stealth Black/Evasive Green, Orange Madness/Blue and Walker Evans editions
  • RZR XP 4 900: Black, White and Red Limited Edition with EPS

Why the 2013 Polaris Lineup Mattered

The RZR range received useful refinements for 2013, but the RANGER XP 900 was the model year’s most consequential introduction. Its rear-mounted engine, redesigned cockpit, increased power and integrated cab system established the basic direction Polaris would follow with future full-size RANGERs.

The RZR family was also becoming increasingly specialized. Polaris offered 50-inch trail machines, wider recreational models, four-seat platforms and the high-performance XP 900 at the same time. That breadth helped establish RZR as a complete sport-UTV family rather than a single vehicle.

The following model year would bring another major performance milestone with the RZR XP 1000. For a broader view of that evolution, see our complete Polaris RZR history.
