The XC was more enjoyable on the trail than its work-focused specifications might suggest. Its 26-inch Bighorns provided useful traction, while the added ground clearance helped it negotiate ruts and trail obstacles more confidently than the standard 610.

The limitations were equally clear. The 401cc single-cylinder engine was light on power in open terrain, and the 25-mph governor reinforced that the XC was still a compact utility machine. It could explore trails, but it was not designed for fast recreational driving.

Suspension, Steering and Brakes

Front and rear wheel travel measured approximately 3.1 inches. The XC therefore depended on moderate speeds, compliant tires and careful line selection when crossing rough ground.

Rack-and-pinion steering kept the controls straightforward, while the unlocked rear differential helped the MULE achieve an approximately 11.8-foot turning radius. The mechanical steering did not include electric power assistance.
