2017 Can-Am Maverick MAX X ds Turbo: Specs and Features

Can-Am Maverick MAX X ds Turbo

The 2017 Can-Am Maverick MAX X ds Turbo brought 131 horsepower and room for four to the original Maverick sport UTV platform. Its turbocharged Rotax V-twin, 64-inch stance and 117.5-inch wheelbase made it a long-wheelbase option for dunes, desert trails and family rides. This is the original Maverick MAX X ds Turbo, distinct from the Maverick X3 MAX that Can-Am introduced later.

Can-Am equipped the MAX X ds Turbo with a 976cc liquid-cooled V-twin, an electronically controlled turbocharger and an air-to-air intercooler with a fan. Forged pistons, high-capacity fuel injectors and a Donaldson high-performance air filter supported the 131-horsepower rating. The electronically controlled wastegate adjusted boost as conditions changed; Can-Am stated that the system could maintain full performance at elevations up to 5,000 feet.

Suspension and handling

Up front, double A-arms provided 15 inches of travel. Can-Am’s torsional trailing A-arm (TTA) rear suspension delivered 16 inches of travel. Front and rear sway bars helped control body roll on the long four-seat chassis.

FOX 2.5 Podium QS3 piggyback shocks came at both ends. Their three-position compression adjusters let the driver change the ride setting without tools. The rear shocks also incorporated bottom-out control. These components gave the MAX X ds Turbo a useful range of adjustment for changing terrain and passenger loads.

Four-wheel drive was selectable, with a Visco-Lok QE auto-locking front differential. Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering offered three levels of steering assistance, while the Quick Response System (QRS) CVT provided high and low ranges. The factory wheel and tire package paired 14-inch aluminum beadlocks with 28-inch Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires.
