The 2015 Kawasaki MULE PRO-FXT introduced an entirely new full-size utility side-by-side platform with more power, comfort and recreational capability than previous MULE models. Its defining features included an 812cc three-cylinder engine, independent suspension and Kawasaki’s convertible Trans Cab system, which allowed one vehicle to carry either three or six occupants.
Kawasaki described the new PRO-FXT as the “King of MULEs.” More importantly, the model marked the beginning of the modern MULE PRO family and established the basic formula Kawasaki would continue developing over the following decade.

812cc Three-Cylinder Engine

The 2015 MULE PRO-FXT was powered by an 812cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke three-cylinder engine with digital fuel injection. Kawasaki rated it at 48 lb-ft of torque, giving the new model considerably stronger acceleration, hauling ability and trail performance than the company’s traditional V-twin MULE platforms.
A continuously variable transmission delivered power through high and low ranges. Kawasaki tuned the CVT for controlled low-speed operation and incorporated engine braking to help the vehicle maintain a manageable speed when descending hills with cargo or passengers aboard.
Drivers could select two- or four-wheel drive using dash-mounted controls. A separate dual-mode rear differential could be locked for maximum traction or unlocked when operating on turf and other surfaces where reduced ground disturbance was desirable.
The 7.9-gallon fuel tank provided useful range for long workdays and recreational trail rides.
Independent Suspension and Power Steering

Kawasaki equipped the MULE PRO-FXT with independent double-wishbone suspension at all four corners. Suspension travel measured 8.7 inches at the front and right rear, with 8.5 inches at the left rear. Twin-tube shocks offered adjustable spring preload.
The chassis provided 10.2 inches of ground clearance while retaining a relatively compact 92.3-inch wheelbase. Kawasaki listed the turning radius at 16 feet, helping the six-passenger machine maneuver around barns, worksites and tighter trails.
Speed-sensitive Electric Power Steering was standard on the EPS, EPS LE and Camo versions. The system reduced steering effort at low speeds while helping isolate the steering wheel from impacts encountered on rough terrain. EPS-equipped models also included a tilt-adjustable steering wheel.
Hydraulic disc brakes were fitted at all four wheels, using dual-piston front calipers and single-piston rear calipers. A mechanical rear parking brake secured the vehicle when stopped.
Three- or Six-Passenger Trans Cab

The Trans Cab system was the most important feature of the 2015 Kawasaki MULE PRO-FXT. It allowed one person to convert the vehicle from a three-passenger utility configuration to a six-passenger crew layout without tools.
To create additional cargo space, the operator folded the rear seat, released the cargo wall and moved it forward. Converting to six-passenger mode reversed the process and created a second three-person bench seat.

Bed length measured 22 inches in the six-passenger configuration and expanded to 42.7 inches in three-passenger mode. The steel bed remained 53.7 inches wide in either arrangement.
This was not Kawasaki’s first convertible-cab MULE. The earlier MULE 3010 Trans4x4 and MULE 4010 Trans4x4 had established the concept, but the PRO-FXT combined it with considerably more power, independent suspension and a more spacious cab. Learn more about that development in our history of the Kawasaki MULE.
Cargo and Towing Capacity
In three-passenger mode, the steel cargo bed was rated to carry as much as 1,000 pounds where permitted by applicable regulations. The tilting bed used hydraulic assistance and included integrated steel rails and divider slots for securing and organizing cargo.
An integrated two-inch receiver hitch gave the MULE PRO-FXT a maximum towing rating of 2,000 pounds when properly equipped. These capacities positioned the vehicle for agricultural work, property maintenance, hunting, commercial use and other jobs requiring both passengers and equipment.
Cab Comfort and Storage

Front and rear bench seats each accommodated three occupants. Full doors were standard equipment, replacing the side nets commonly used on many UTVs of the period. Three-point seat belts and a certified Roll Over Protective Structure were also standard.
Interior storage included space beneath the front seat, a glovebox and three dashboard pockets. The center dash pocket could accommodate an available Kawasaki audio system. Two cupholders were integrated ahead of the dashboard.
The multifunction LCD display included a speedometer, odometer, hour meter, fuel gauge, clock, dual trip meters and drivetrain indicators.
Every model provided two front 12-volt accessory outlets with up to 120 watts of available power. EPS LE and Camo models added two outlets for the rear-seat area. Kawasaki rated the charging system at 60.8 amps at 2,000 rpm with the headlights operating, providing capacity for accessories commonly installed on working UTVs.
2015 Kawasaki MULE PRO-FXT Models

Kawasaki MULE PRO-FXT Accessories

More than 60 Kawasaki Genuine Accessories were announced with the vehicle. Available equipment included hard and soft roofs, windshields, cab enclosures, heaters, an audio system, under-seat storage bins, a bed extender, cargo dividers, skid plates, brush guards and a dual-battery kit.
Kawasaki also offered WARN winch and ProVantage plow packages. Accessories developed for the vehicle could be installed without affecting the standard three-year limited warranty when applicable warranty requirements were followed.
Built in Lincoln, Nebraska
The MULE PRO-FXT was assembled from domestic and imported components at Kawasaki’s manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska. The model became an important part of Kawasaki’s long history of building side-by-sides in the United States.
UTVGuide.net later visited the Lincoln operation to see how Kawasaki formed, welded, painted and assembled its side-by-sides. Go inside the facility in our feature on how Kawasaki builds side-by-sides in Nebraska.
Why the 2015 MULE PRO-FXT Mattered
The 2015 MULE PRO-FXT was more than another yearly MULE update. It created a new upper branch of Kawasaki’s utility lineup and showed that a work-focused side-by-side could offer useful trail speed, independent suspension and six-passenger comfort without sacrificing serious cargo and towing capacity.
Kawasaki subsequently expanded the platform with the single-row MULE PRO-FX, diesel-powered PRO-DX and PRO-DXT, and the more recreation-oriented PRO-FXR. Later MULE PRO 1000 models added a 999cc parallel-twin engine, while the MULE PRO-FX 820 and PRO-FXT 820 continued the original three-cylinder platform.
