Vision X Lighting introduced its 6.7-inch Light Cannon LED in 2014 as a high-output, long-range driving light for off-road vehicles, race vehicles, trucks and other demanding applications.
The round light used a single 50-watt Luminus LED and a focused 10-degree spot beam. Vision X rated it for 2,520 feet of usable light when measured at one lux—nearly half a mile. That made distance lighting the defining feature of the 6.7-inch Light Cannon.
Long-Range Light From a Single LED
Rather than using an array of smaller LEDs, the Light Cannon paired one large LED with Vision X’s proprietary Iris Reflector Technology. The design was intended to create a smooth, concentrated beam capable of projecting far down a trail, desert racecourse or remote road.
The original light produced a claimed 3,200 raw lumens while drawing 50 watts and 4.17 amps. Vision X combined the reflector with its Prime Drive electronics and integrated thermal-management system to help control output and heat.
Changeable Light Cannon Covers
One of the Light Cannon’s more versatile features was its selection of snap-on polycarbonate covers. Different covers could alter the light pattern from the standard spot beam to Euro or flood patterns without replacing the complete light.
Clear, blue, amber and red filter options were also offered for different driving conditions. A blackout cover with a glow-in-the-dark “X” was available as well.
In addition to modifying the beam or color, the covers provided another layer of protection for the Light Cannon’s polycarbonate lens.
Built for Harsh Off-Road Conditions
The 6.7-inch Light Cannon used a hybrid aluminum and polycarbonate housing designed to balance strength, heat management and weight. Each light weighed approximately 5.5 pounds and carried an IP68 ingress-protection rating.
A single-bolt mounting system allowed the light to be installed on a variety of bumpers, roof mounts and light tabs. Electrical connections were handled through a weather-resistant Deutsch connector.

Why the Light Cannon Mattered
The 6.7-inch Light Cannon arrived when high-output LED lighting was rapidly replacing HID and halogen equipment on many UTVs and off-road race vehicles. Its combination of a tightly focused long-distance beam, interchangeable covers and rugged construction made it particularly relevant for high-speed nighttime driving.
Modern LED lights offer more output and increasingly sophisticated beam control, but the original Light Cannon helped establish the large, single-LED round light as a serious option for off-road use.
