Can-Am Commander Test at Little Sahara

Can-Am Commander

April 2010

I had the incredibly opportunity of being invited by Can-Am to join them at the Little Sahara Sand Dunes in Utah to test out their newest vehicles. The Can-Am Commander 1000 XT and 1000 X weren’t due to be released to the public until June 8, 2010, but there I was driving around the dunes in a pre-release version of the Commander 1000 X.

The Can-Am engineers had brought along a Commander 1000 XT and 1000 X and wanted real-life enthusiasts to test them in an environment that they were familiar with. Well, I live for carving up the dunes in a UTV, so I was like a kid in a candy store.

Can-Am Commander

We spent an entire day ripping around the dunes in Commanders that had black mesh fabric over them so they wouldn’t be quite as noticeable and we tried to avoid other users in the dunes as much as possible.

At the end of the day, I provided feedback to Can-Am on everything about this new side x side. I was very impressed with how well the Commander’s performed and the fit and finish of the pre-production units. I really think that Can-Am was smart to enlist the help of enthusiasts in a variety of terrain to help flush out any problems before production began.  They will end up with a more solid product because of it.

I cannot wait to get my hands on a Commander 1000.  This UTV is awesome!
