Johnson Valley, located in Southern California’s high desert, is a premier destination for off-road enthusiasts, offering a diverse landscape that includes steep red rocky mountains, rolling hills, open valleys, dry lake beds, and sandy washes. Spanning approximately 96,000 acres, this area caters to various skill levels, from novice riders exploring gentle trails to experts seeking the challenges of the renowned “Hammers” rock crawling routes. Each year, Johnson Valley hosts the King of the Hammers, a prestigious off-road race that combines high-speed desert racing with technical rock crawling, attracting competitors and spectators worldwide. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the area provides ample opportunities for camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing, making it a versatile destination for outdoor recreation.
