Since our initial build was completed at TMW Off-Road, we’ve taken our 2020 Can-Am Maverick X3 RC on quick trips to Glamis and the Rubicon. For our next trip, we traveled to Johnson Valley, CA which is home to King of the Hammers to pre-run with Phil Blurton, Cody miller and Hunter Miller.
Johnson Valley has an incredible variety of terrain and I felt it was the perfect location to do a solid test of the suspension on our Maverick X3 RC. From extreme rock crawling to big whoops, washes with stutter bumps to giant cross-grain g-out and more.
The stock 2020 Can-Am Maverick X3 RC is an already great platform for rough terrain with class-leading travel numbers, but there is always more you can do to make it better than stock. For the suspension on this project, we teamed up with Shock Therapy, FOX and Cognito Motorsports.

In addition to the performance improvements the addition of the spring kit will raise your ground clearance another 2 inches. This added height actually rides smoother and more plush than the factory system as well as giving you extra clearance for rocks and rutted trails without needing to ever use a lift kit! iQS not only allows you to adjust the shocks on the fly from the driver’s seat, it also allows FOX to provide a wider range of adjustment in the electronic valve. This means you can put the full functionality of your shocks into use based on terrain you want to tackle without having to stop to make an adjustment.

There is nothing wrong with the OEM suspension on the Maverick X3, but if you re going to torture test it in Johnson Valley while running rock trails with guys that are pre-running for King of the Hammers, it is nice to know you have stronger suspension components.
