Our 2016 Polaris GENERAL 1000 EPS Deluxe became a do-it-all project vehicle. We drove it on rocky trails and dunes, tested 30-inch tires, took it camping, and even put its work side to use mowing a field. This page brings together the trips, tests, and accessories from our original GENERAL buildup.
At the GENERAL press introduction in New Mexico, the combination of a cargo bed and a sporty trail chassis made a strong impression. The original GENERAL’s 100-horsepower ProStar engine, 12 inches of ground clearance, and 12.25 inches of front and 13.2 inches of rear suspension travel gave us plenty of reasons to bring one home. The details below document our 2016-era machine and our experiences with it, rather than a current-model specification or accessory fitment guide.
Where We Took the GENERAL
Jarbidge Wilderness Area Adventure Ride
Our GENERAL Deluxe joined a five-UTV group for a 220-mile loop around the Jarbidge Wilderness Area, starting and finishing in Wells, Nevada.
Spring Camping in the Owyhee Range
We also took the GENERAL into the Owyhee country near Boise for a spring camping trip and time on the trails.
Early Winter Ride
As the seasons changed, we joined the Hawley Mountain Rippers for an early winter day trip in the GENERAL 1000 EPS Deluxe.
Barrett Lake and the Rubicon Trail

Work, Tires, and Sand
Field Mowing with a Towable Mower
We mowed four acres behind the GENERAL with a Kunz Rough Cut towable mower. For this work we ran 30x10R15 STI Chicane RX tires on STI beadlock wheels.
30-Inch Tire Test
Our 2016 30-inch tire test at Prairie City SVRA put several tread designs through short-course and rock crawling sections. The photos below show the Arisun Aftershock XD, Sedona Rock-A-Billy, and STI Chicane in that testing.
Sand Mountain, Nevada
