Originally published October 5, 2009. HCR Racing introduced a long travel suspension kit for the first-generation Kawasaki Teryx 750 4×4, giving the early recreation-utility UTV a substantially wider stance and more suspension travel for aggressive desert, dune and rock use.
The complete package was originally priced at $5,399 and combined boxed chromoly suspension components with custom-tuned King reservoir shocks and upgraded Summers Brothers Racing axles. The specifications and pricing below reflect HCR Racing’s original 2009 announcement and may no longer represent current availability.
HCR Kawasaki Teryx Long Travel Kit
The HCR suspension system extended the Teryx six inches per side, adding approximately 12 inches to the vehicle’s overall track width. HCR also lengthened the wheelbase by two inches and claimed more than 14 inches of wheel travel.
Those changes were intended to improve stability at speed, increase suspension articulation and give the original Teryx a more controlled ride across rough terrain. By comparison, the stock 2008 Teryx provided 7.5 inches of front-wheel travel and approximately 7.3 inches at the rear.

King Shocks Tuned for the Teryx
HCR Racing said it tuned each shock package in-house so the spring rates and valving matched the weight, suspension geometry and intended use of the Kawasaki Teryx. The company tested its long travel systems in rocks, desert terrain and sand before releasing them to customers.
The combination of additional suspension travel, a wider stance and a longer wheelbase was designed to produce lighter, more accurate steering while improving stability during high-speed driving, hill climbs and steep descents.
An Early Kawasaki Teryx Suspension Upgrade
This kit arrived while the original two-seat Teryx was establishing itself as one of the major recreation-oriented UTVs of the period. Kawasaki introduced the carbureted Teryx for 2008 before adding electronic fuel injection for 2009.
The platform also became an important part of early UTV racing. Modified Teryx race vehicles competed against the Polaris RZR in short-course and desert events, as covered in our history of early UTV short-course racing.
HCR continued developing Kawasaki suspension systems as the Teryx platform evolved. Later examples included its Kawasaki Teryx4 long travel suspension and the company’s 2016 Kawasaki Teryx long travel kit.
