2014 Kawasaki Teryx4 800 CAMO Specs and Features

The 2014 Kawasaki Teryx4 800 CAMO brought more power, upgraded suspension and improved lighting to Kawasaki’s four-passenger recreational side-by-side. Finished in genuine Realtree APG HD camouflage, the woods-ready Teryx4 combined trail capability with seating for four, a useful cargo bed and a 1,300-pound towing capacity.

The biggest change for 2014 was the move to a 783cc V-twin engine. Kawasaki claimed the larger engine produced 10 percent more torque and 8 percent more power than the previous version while also delivering improved fuel economy.

Other major upgrades included adjustable FOX Podium piggyback shocks and high-intensity LED headlights. These updates were also part of the broader changes made to the 2014 Kawasaki Teryx4 LE.

More Powerful 783cc V-Twin Engine

The liquid-cooled, 783cc, single-overhead-cam V-twin featured four valves per cylinder and digital fuel injection. Its 90-degree cylinder arrangement provided excellent primary balance, helping reduce vibration for the driver and passengers.

Kawasaki tuned the camshaft profiles, ignition timing and exhaust system to emphasize low- and midrange torque. That power delivery was particularly useful when climbing steep trails, carrying four occupants or towing equipment.

Two 36mm throttle bodies with 12-hole fuel injectors helped provide predictable throttle response across changing temperatures and elevations. A high-mounted air intake and large airbox were designed to reduce intake noise while protecting the engine from dust and debris.

CVT and Selectable Four-Wheel Drive

The engine was paired with Kawasaki’s continuously variable transmission, offering high range, low range, neutral and reverse. A wet centrifugal clutch between the crankshaft and CVT drive pulley helped produce smooth engagement and precise throttle control at low speeds while reducing shock loads on the drive belt.

A dash-mounted selector allowed the driver to choose among three drivetrain settings:

• Two-wheel drive
• Four-wheel drive
• Four-wheel drive with the front differential locked

This gave the driver the ability to select lighter steering for ordinary trail use or maximum traction for mud, rocks and steep climbs.

FOX Podium Suspension

For 2014, Kawasaki equipped the Teryx4 with FOX Podium coil-over shocks featuring piggyback reservoirs. The shocks offered adjustable spring preload and 24-position compression damping, allowing the suspension to be tuned for terrain, cargo and passenger load.

The dual-A-arm front suspension provided 8 inches of wheel travel, while the independent rear suspension delivered 8.3 inches. A rear torsion bar helped control body roll when cornering.

The relatively compact 85.7-inch wheelbase gave the four-seat Teryx4 a tight 16.7-foot turning radius. Its 11.1 inches of ground clearance and short wheelbase also helped it cross uneven terrain without becoming high-centered.

Double-X Frame and Electric Power Steering

The Teryx4 was built around Kawasaki’s reinforced Double-X steel frame. Two X-shaped crossmembers connected the frame’s boxed sections to improve rigidity and durability under the additional loads associated with four-passenger use.

Electric Power Steering reduced steering effort at low speeds while providing less assistance as vehicle speed increased. The system also helped damp impacts and reduce steering-wheel kickback on rough trails.

The wide-body chassis and mid-mounted engine helped centralize mass and improve stability. A certified Roll-Over Protective Structure extended close to the edges of the bodywork to preserve passenger room while helping protect the occupants and body panels.

Four-Passenger Interior

The Teryx4’s cabin included four high-backed bucket seats and retractable three-point seat belts. The front seats could be adjusted among three positions, while the elevated rear seats gave passengers a better view of the trail ahead.

Passenger handholds and a beverage holder for each seating position were standard. The Realtree camouflage model also included a roof to help shelter occupants from sun and rain.

A multifunction digital display provided the driver with a speedometer, odometer, hour meter, clock, dual trip meters, fuel gauge and drivetrain indicators. Warning lights monitored the parking brake, CVT belt, coolant temperature, oil pressure and fuel-injection system.

Cargo, Towing and Trail Equipment

The rear cargo bed measured approximately 48 inches wide by 18 inches long and carried up to 249 pounds. Four integrated tie-down points helped secure coolers, fuel containers and other trail gear.

A standard 2-inch receiver hitch gave the Teryx4 a rated towing capacity of 1,300 pounds. The vehicle also carried 7.9 gallons of fuel and included two DC electrical outlets—one in the front and another for rear-seat passengers.

Additional trail equipment included 26-inch Maxxis tires mounted on 12-inch wheels, dual hydraulic front disc brakes and Kawasaki’s sealed, oil-bathed multi-disc rear brake. The enclosed rear braking system protected its internal components from mud, water and debris.

A Capable Four-Seat Trail Machine

The 2014 Kawasaki Teryx4 800 CAMO was more than a special graphics package. Its larger V-twin, adjustable FOX suspension and LED lighting represented meaningful upgrades for owners who used their side-by-side for trail riding, hunting, camping and property work.

Its relatively short wheelbase also distinguished the Teryx4 from many four-seat machines. That compact footprint was especially valuable on narrow wooded trails and was one of the characteristics we experienced while exploring Utah’s Paiute Trail in a 2014 Kawasaki Teryx4.
