The Assault Industries RZR spare tire rack was developed to carry a full-size spare without permanently sacrificing access to the Polaris RZR’s rear cargo bed. Originally introduced in 2016 for the RZR XP 1000 platform, the rack used a hinged design that positioned the tire low over the bed to help preserve rearward visibility and keep the added weight relatively low.
Assault Industries later redesigned the product and renamed it the Adventure Rack. The current version retains the original rack’s lift-up functionality while adding a larger utility platform, dual rear hinge points, stronger gas-assist shocks and additional cargo-mounting options.
Original Assault Industries RZR Spare Tire Rack
The original rack shown here was constructed from steel tubing and heavy-gauge CNC-cut steel brackets. It bolted directly onto compatible Polaris RZR models using factory mounting locations, eliminating the need to drill or permanently modify the vehicle.
Its design placed the spare close to the cargo bed instead of mounting it high behind the cage. This helped limit the effect of the spare’s weight on the vehicle’s center of gravity while maintaining a relatively unobstructed view through a rearview mirror.
- Designed for the Polaris RZR XP 1000 platform
- Carried tires up to 31 inches
- Steel-tube construction with CNC-cut mounting brackets
- Satin-black powder-coated finish
- Direct bolt-on installation using factory hardware
- Installation possible with common hand tools
- Made in the USA
From Spare Tire Rack to Adventure Rack
The redesigned Adventure Rack expands the concept beyond simply carrying a spare tire. Its wider steel platform incorporates slotted and dimpled utility panels that can support additional trail gear above or below the rack. The design also mounts to the cage rather than resting against the RZR’s bodywork.
Gas-assisted lift struts raise the loaded rack so riders can reach tools, recovery equipment or other items stored in the cargo bed. Adjustable shock and latch mounting positions help accommodate differences between compatible cages and vehicle configurations.

Verified Polaris RZR Fitment
According to Assault Industries, the current RZR Adventure Rack fits the following models and model years:
- Polaris RZR XP 1000: 2014–2023
- Polaris RZR XP 4 1000: 2014–2023
- Polaris RZR XP Turbo: 2016–2021
- Polaris RZR XP 4 Turbo: 2016–2021
- Polaris RZR XP Turbo S: 2018–2021
- Polaris RZR XP 4 Turbo S: 2019–2021
Fitment note: This rack is intended for the earlier XP 1000, XP Turbo and Turbo S chassis families. It should not be assumed to fit the redesigned 2024-and-newer RZR XP, RZR Pro XP, Pro R or Pro S. Verify the exact vehicle, cage and accessory combination before ordering. Some cage-mounted accessories may interfere with the rack’s lifting range.
What to Consider Before Adding a Spare Tire Rack
A rear rack makes a full-size spare easier to carry, but the combined weight of the rack, wheel and tire can be substantial. Owners should account for that weight when calculating the RZR’s payload and avoid loading unnecessary equipment high on the rack.
Check that the installed spare does not block rear lighting, interfere with cage-mounted accessories or contact the body as the rack moves. It is also important to inspect the mounting hardware, hinge points, latches and tire strap periodically—especially after rough trail or desert use.
The lift-assisted design is particularly useful when the cargo bed holds tools and recovery supplies that must remain accessible during a ride. However, the rack should always be fully latched before driving, and the spare’s retaining strap should be checked for tension whenever the vehicle stops.
A Practical Upgrade for Earlier RZR Models
The original Assault Industries RZR spare tire rack addressed two common problems: finding a secure location for a full-size spare and retaining access to the cargo bed. The newer Adventure Rack builds on that concept with more cargo versatility, a 32-inch tire capacity and an updated lift-assist system.
