Shocker Air Hitch Review

Shocker Air Hitch

By Jon Crowley

While our 20 foot long Aluma car trailer isn’t a super heavy load to pull behind our Ford F-350, I still feel like we experience to much clunks and jerks from the trailer, especially while driving on the highways in California.

Like most others, I have towed with a solid mount hitch for years. The amount of movement with a solid mount hitch before a trailer is even hooked up is crazy. We had the need to haul my wife’s Ford Explorer and a Kawasaki KRX on a trip from Northern California to southern Utah, and I figured it would be a perfect time to try a new setup. I loaded the Kawasaki up on our truck rack and the Explorer on a 20 foot Aluma trailer.

I had seen a few ads from Shocker Hitch on social media, and the concept of adding an air bag to an hitch intrigued me. I contacted them and asked if they’d be interested in us doing a review and they were confident that their product would make a big improvement in our towing setup.

After a bit of back and forth, we narrowed it down to a Shocker Air Hitch w/ Drop Ball Mount 4-1/2″ to 8-1/2″ Drop.

After getting it installed, loading the trailer and airing the airbag to 40psi, we hit the road. We drove down Interstate 5 from Sacramento, California to Bakersfield, then Highway 58 to Barstow, where we continued on Interstate 15 north to St. George, Utah. While the Shocker Hitch cannot smooth out these rough roads, it did do exactly as advertised.  First off, there were no more clunks and then the jerkiness of the trailer was smooth out dramatically. With a normal solid hitch, all the bumps, potholes and expansion jolts would be felt and heard.  With the Shock Hitch, it was much quieter and smoother. I did not notice the trailer was back there as much! I am definitely sold.

I was not able to get any of my own video of the hitch, but I feel the Shocker Hitch video adequately represents how the product works. Check it out below:
