24th Annual Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno Off-Road Race

Vegas to Reno

LAS VEGAS, NV (July 2, 2020): The summer is heating up and with the hugely successful VT Construction Silver State “300” Presented by Polaris behind them, despite wildfire and COVID-19 challenges, Best In The Desert is looking ahead toward the biggest race on their 2020 calendar: The Maxxis Tires “Casey Folks” Vegas to Reno Presented by Fox, the longest off-road race in the United States.

This year’s racecourse spans 550 miles of grueling Nevada desert between Las Vegas and Reno and will take place on August 12-15, 2020, so racers better start preparing and getting their vehicles into prime condition! Best In The Desert proved to the off-road racing community that they could organize a large event successfully while keeping racers, staff, volunteers, and spectators safe in the midst of COVID-19. Now they are looking ahead to the race they are best known for, ready to run for the 24th year.

“The Maxxis Tires ‘Casey Folks’ Vegas to Reno Presented by Fox is the granddaddy of all Best In The Desert races and the one I look forward to most,” said Bryan Folks CMO of Best In The Desert. “Our last event, the VT Construction Silver State 300 Presented by Polaris, was a great test for our team where we proved we can rise to almost any challenge. Our sport and industry need this race, especially during these challenging times. We are going to work twice as hard to make sure we put on a great event, an event our racers enjoy and can test their abilities against each other and the toughest terrain Nevada has to offer.”

The 2020 Maxxis Tires “Casey Folks” Vegas to Reno Presented by Fox starts with Time Trials on August 12, 2020, and continues for the next three days leading up to the start of the race itself on the morning of Friday, August 14, 2020, near Beatty, Nevada. Racers will race all day, and most into the night to reach the finish in Dayton, Nevada. The course will see some significant changes from years past, which is exciting for racers and fans who have been coming to the Vegas to Reno event for years.

This year’s race also marks the second round of the Maxxis Triple Crown which means the top three finishers in Unlimited Cars/Trucks, Limited Cars/Trucks, UTVs and Motorcycle/Quad classes will take home an additional $67,000 in bonus money from Best In The Desert on top of their normal payout. Bonuses include $25,000 for the Unlimited Car and Truck Class winner; $7,500 for the Limited Car and Truck Class winner; $7,500 for the top UTV and $3,500 for the winner of the Pro Motorcycle/Quad Class. Results will also count towards the year-end Best In The Desert Series Class Championships, Maxxis Triple Crown Series Championships, and the all-new Adventure Series that started with the recent Silver State 300 and includes the rest of the year’s races.

Best In The Desert is anticipating a huge turnout for this year’s event and will again implement special procedures to best protect staff, racers, and spectators. Best In The Desert will have a protocol in place similar to the VT Construction Silver State 300 Presented by Polaris to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus including setting a schedule for driver/rider registration, a drive-through contingency and tech inspection process, holding the Driver’s Meeting virtually, and last but not least, requesting that attendees wear masks while in group settings. Additional organizational updates will be announced as the event approaches.

Fans and racers can begin to make travel arrangements by using the booking code SCIBITD for the new Las Vegas host hotel, Sunset Station, or by visiting Sunset Station’s reservation website. Rooms are blocked off at Sunset Station until July 20, 2020. The Reno host hotel will again be the Nugget Casino with the cutoff for Best In The Desert race attendees on July 31, 2020. If fans of the race aren’t able to compete (but still want front row seats!), Best In The Desert is encouraging participants to volunteer by filling out the 2020 Volunteer Form and returning it by July 17, 2020.

MAVTV will again air the Maxxis Tires “Casey Folks” Vegas to Reno Presented by Fox and will include coverage of all racing classes for the first time ever. Fans who aren’t able to attend can watch the entire race on MAVTV on October 7, 2020.

Despite a challenging start to the 2020 racing series with COVID-19 postponements, Best In The Desert is ready to finish the year strong with more successful races including the Maxxis Tires “Casey Folks” Vegas to Reno Presented by Fox come August.

Registration to compete in the Maxxis Tires “Casey Folks” Vegas to Reno Presented by Fox is open until August 10, 2020. Register to race the event here. Drawing for start position will be held on Wednesday July 22nd, 2020. Don’t miss out, send your entry in today!
