Yamaha officially closed the book on the YXZ1000R in the most fitting way possible—by winning championships. Debuting in 2016, the YXZ1000R carved out a unique place in the UTV world with its high-revving three-cylinder engine, true manual transmission, and a design that rewarded skilled, engaged drivers rather than casual trail cruising.
At the 2025 Championship Off-Road finale at Glen Helen Raceway, Yamaha factory pilot Owen VanEperen delivered a storybook ending, clinching both the Pro SxS and Pro Stock SxS titles behind the wheel of the YXZ1000R. Adding to the historic moment, Owen shared the celebration with his father, Rodney VanEperen, creating a rare and memorable father-son championship pairing.
