Off-road racer Sara Price unveiled her Rip & Dip Edition Can-Am Maverick R X rs in October 2024. Built by Mitchell Alsup and Alsup Racing Development, the two-seat Maverick R was configured for rally navigation training, desert driving and Price’s time away from competition.
Price wanted a versatile machine without unnecessary weight. The build pairs a rally trip meter with an Alsup Racing Development cage and suspension components, 35-inch BFGoodrich tires, Sparco safety equipment and Rugged Radios communications. It starts with the Maverick R’s 240-horsepower engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Built for Rally Navigation Training
One of the build’s defining pieces is an RNS TripMaster GFX trip meter. It gives Price a dedicated tool for practicing the distance tracking and roadbook navigation used in rally raid. That training purpose shapes the vehicle more than its graphics or show-car appearance.
Price had already competed in the 2024 Dakar Rally when the Rip & Dip Maverick R was announced. She won a stage, earned the event’s Rookie Award and finished fourth in the SSV category. The experience gave her a clear idea of the equipment she wanted in a vehicle she could use for practice.
“I’m a big believer in simple lightweight builds without unnecessary weight,” Price said when introducing the Maverick R. She described rally raid preparation as its main purpose, while also wanting a comfortable vehicle she could enjoy outside training.
Alsup Racing Development Cage and Suspension
Alsup Racing Development installed its Maverick R cage while retaining functional opening doors. The build also uses an Alsup front bumper and Maverick R suspension components.
FOX PODIUM shocks with Smart-Shox remain part of the suspension package: 2.5-inch piggyback shocks at the front and 3.0-inch piggyback shocks at the rear, both described in the original build specification as having bypass technology. Hyperco springs complete the listed shock and spring setup.

Wheels, Tires and Drivetrain
Price selected 35×10.50R15 BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 tires mounted on 15×6.5 Raceline A14BG Alpha beadlock wheels. The original build specification lists a 6×139.7 bolt pattern and +74 offset.
The build also lists SuperATV Rhino 2.0 heavy-duty axles. The larger tire package, beadlock wheels and axle upgrade reflect the machine’s intended mix of desert use and rally preparation. For our impressions of the standard Maverick R in open terrain, read the Can-Am Maverick R first-ride review.
Safety, Communications and Lighting
Inside the Maverick R are a Sparco EVO QRT-X seat and Sparco harnesses. A Rugged Radios M1 race radio and RRP 6100 Pro Series intercom provide driver and crew communications.
The listed lighting includes a Baja Designs 10-inch OnX light bar and two Squadron XL80 lights up front, plus an RTL race taillight at the rear. RAVEK plug-and-play Apex running lights add accessory lighting, and a RAVEK cage-mounted sunglasses holder adds a small convenience feature. J.Juan brakes and Evolution Powersports performance parts and accessories also appear on the original build sheet; the announcement did not identify the individual Evolution Powersports components.

What “Rip & Dip” Means
The graphics reference Rip & Dip Ranch, Price and fellow racer Ricky Brabec’s property in Mohave Valley, Arizona. The name combines desert riding—the “rip”—with time at the Colorado River—the “dip.” At the build’s unveiling, Price described plans to develop the ranch for motorsports, events and production use.
The Maverick R brings that theme together with a practical training role. For more on Price’s rally program, read UTV Guide’s coverage of her 2024 Dakar Rally effort and 2025 Dakar Rally campaign.
