There are lots of trails to explore near Kanab Utah and one of our favorite access points is Elephant Cove Staging Area. This is a popular spot to stage for the day or camp for several days of exploring. One of the most popular trails in the area is the Barracks Trail, but today we are focusing on two other destinations: Warrior Walkway and Shunesburg Mail Drop.
Trailhead
We staged at the Elephant Cove Staging Area which is 4.5 miles southwest of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. This trailhead has access to trails north and south of the Yellow Jacket Road, Harris Mountain, Moccasin Mountain kiosk, Dino Dance Hall, Shunesburg Mail Drop overlook (requires hiking), Goat Springs, Pine Spring kiosk, Warriors Walk, Rock Creek overlook the Barracks, River run via the Barracks Trail.

Warrior Walkway
Legend has it that this was a path taken by young warriors as a part of a rite of passage ceremony, but not much confirmed information is known about the Indian Warrior Walkway.
Great views to the north of Zion National Park.

Shunesburg Mail Drop
Half-mile walk through deep sand will take you to the Shunesburg Mail Drop from the Trailhead. A cable with pulleys allowed mail to be sent down and brought back up this 600+ foot drop. The settlement of Shunesburg was occupied from 1862 – 1902 and the area had about 45 people at its peak.
The Shunesburg Mail Drop currently lies just outside the Southeast corner of Zion National Park and within the Canaan Mountain Wilderness Area.
