Polaris is putting a $50,000 target on the back of its own RZR Factory Racing team.
The newly announced Polaris SCORE Challenge will award $50,000 to any eligible UTV racer who defeats all four RZR Factory Racing entries and captures the Overall UTV victory at the 2026 SCORE Baja 400. The challenge is open to competitors regardless of the UTV manufacturer they represent.
If no one claims the prize at the Baja 400, the $50,000 purse will carry over to the Baja 1000, creating a second opportunity for a rival team to take down Polaris in one of off-road racing’s most demanding events.
Four RZR Factory Racing Drivers Stand in the Way
To collect the prize, a competitor will have to finish ahead of a formidable four-driver RZR Factory Racing lineup:
- Brock Heger
- Cayden MacCachren
- Ethan Groom
- Joe Terrana
All four drivers will compete in the purpose-built Polaris RZR Pro R Factory, an OEM-produced race vehicle engineered specifically for top-level desert competition.
Polaris has positioned these four drivers as the benchmark for SCORE’s UTV field. Rather than simply offering contingency money to Polaris racers, the company is inviting drivers in competing vehicles to line up against its factory team.
That confidence is supported by the team’s recent results. At the 2026 SCORE Baja 500, Polaris racers swept the UTV Overall podium and captured the top nine finishing positions, further establishing the RZR Pro R Factory as the vehicle to beat in SCORE competition.
“The goal of the SCORE Challenge is to reward top racers for racing Baja and create even more opportunities for head-to-head competition at the highest level,” said Alex Scheuerell, Polaris Director of Off-Road Motorsports. “When the best teams and drivers compete, everyone benefits—the sport grows, the competition gets stronger, and the fans get the racing they want to see.”
The format creates a straightforward storyline for the Baja 400: beat every RZR Factory Racing entry, win the Overall UTV category and collect $50,000.

More Than a Factory Contingency Program
Manufacturer contingency programs are nothing new in off-road racing, but the Polaris SCORE Challenge takes a different approach. The prize is not limited to racers driving a Polaris RZR.
That means a qualifying competitor in a Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki or another manufacturer’s UTV could potentially collect the entire purse. It also places the four factory RZR race vehicles in the crosshairs of every serious UTV team entering the event.
Polaris says the program is intended to encourage greater participation in SCORE competition while creating new manufacturer rivalries and more compelling racing for fans.
“Off-road racing has always been about proving yourself in the toughest terrain against the best drivers in the world,” said Reid Wilson, president of Polaris Off-Road Vehicles. “Since the inception of the RZR Factory Racing team, we’ve consistently proven ourselves as the benchmark in SCORE competition, and that dominance is exactly what inspired the SCORE Challenge.”
Wilson added that the challenge is designed to create an incentive for the entire UTV field, not merely promote another Polaris victory.
“If you think you’ve got what it takes to beat us, come line up and let’s go racing,” Wilson said.
What It Takes to Win the $50,000
Based on Polaris’ announcement, merely defeating an individual RZR Factory Racing driver or winning a single SCORE UTV class will not be enough.
A competitor must apparently satisfy both requirements:
- Finish ahead of all four RZR Factory Racing vehicles.
- Win the Overall UTV category at the Baja 400.
The announcement does not provide the complete official rules governing the challenge. Details such as registration requirements, eligible SCORE classes and how a mechanical failure or withdrawal involving a factory RZR would affect the prize were not specified.
Those details will be important for competitors, but the central objective could not be clearer: beat the entire Polaris factory team and take the overall UTV win.
Baja 400 Gets the First Shot
The 2026 SCORE Baja 400 is scheduled for September 9–13 and will be the first opportunity for a competitor to collect the $50,000 prize.
RZR Factory Racing enters the event with a formidable record after sweeping the UTV Overall podium at the 2025 Baja 400, where Brock Heger delivered the team’s third consecutive victory in the race.
The race is already an important event on the SCORE calendar, but the new challenge gives UTV fans another reason to follow the overall standings rather than watching only individual class results. It could also provide additional motivation for factory-supported programs and well-funded privateer teams considering a Baja 400 entry.
If the RZR Factory Racing team prevents anyone from claiming the money, the challenge will move to the Baja 1000. That would put the same $50,000 prize on the line in a longer race where mechanical durability, navigation and team strategy become even greater factors.
A High-Stakes Challenge for the Entire UTV Field
Polaris is making a confident statement by offering prize money to anyone capable of beating its factory operation. At the same time, the company is giving rival manufacturers and private teams a valuable incentive to challenge that claim on the racecourse.
For fans, the Polaris SCORE Challenge adds a simple question to the 2026 Baja 400: Can anyone beat all four factory RZRs and leave Baja with an additional $50,000?
If not, the stakes will carry directly into the Baja 1000.
