Why Use a RANGER XD 1500 for Fire Response?
A fire and rescue UTV is not intended to replace a full-size brush truck, structural engine or ambulance. Its advantage is mobility. A RANGER can travel on narrow trails, across rough terrain and through areas where a larger emergency vehicle may not fit.

Departments that need both firefighting and patient-transport capability can select an Extreme Duty Fire & Rescue configuration based on the six-passenger RANGER CREW XD 1500 NorthStar.
Its QTAC Fire & Rescue Skid incorporates a convertible litter platform. When the platform is stowed, the RANGER’s tailgate can be closed, allowing the vehicle to remain more practical for other assignments. When needed, the platform can carry a rescue litter for moving an injured person out of a remote location.

Dedicated Rescue Skid
The QTAC Rescue Skid prioritizes patient transport rather than fire suppression. It provides a full-size rescue area, sliding equipment storage and a rear attendant seat. Optional equipment includes an IV pole and oxygen-bottle mounts.
This layout can be useful for search-and-rescue operations, public events, parks, trail systems and other locations where an injured person must be moved to a waiting ambulance.
RANGER XP 1000 Fire and Rescue Packages
Not every department needs the size, capacity or cost of the XD 1500. Polaris also offers fire and rescue solutions based on the RANGER XP 1000 and RANGER CREW XP 1000.
These vehicles are smaller and lighter than the XD platform, which can be an advantage on tight trails or when the UTV must be transported in an enclosed trailer. Available packages combine the XP 1000 with firefighting, fire-and-rescue or dedicated rescue skids, emergency lights, sirens, storage racks, mirrors and protective equipment.
Electric RANGER XP Kinetic Rescue UTV
The RANGER XP Kinetic provides an electric alternative for rescue operations. Its 110-horsepower powertrain produces 140 lb-ft of torque while eliminating engine exhaust and greatly reducing vehicle noise.
Quiet operation can make face-to-face and radio communication easier around a rescue scene. It may also be valuable in parks, campuses, indoor facilities or environmentally sensitive locations. However, agencies must consider available range, charging time and access to charging infrastructure before selecting an electric emergency-response vehicle.
The Electric Off-Road Rescue package combines the RANGER XP Kinetic with the dedicated rescue skid, emergency lighting, siren and PA system, windshield, roof, rear panel, mirrors, protective rock guards and a winch.
Important Payload and Operational Considerations
Water is heavy. A 75-gallon supply weighs approximately 625 pounds before accounting for the tank, pump, hose, tools, rescue equipment, occupants and optional foam. Departments must evaluate the complete vehicle load rather than looking only at the capacity of the water tank.
Operator training is equally important. Added equipment can raise the vehicle’s center of gravity and change its braking, steering and rollover characteristics. Water movement inside a partially filled tank may further affect handling. Vehicle speed and route selection should be adjusted for the load, terrain, visibility and urgency of the response.
A properly equipped RANGER can improve access and response time, but it remains a specialized off-road support vehicle. It should operate within the department’s established procedures, training requirements and incident-command structure.
