One of the closest UTV finishes of the 2025 desert-racing season came down to just nine seconds. Polaris-supported racer Mitch Guthrie Jr. drove his RZR Pro R Factory to the overall UTV victory at the 2025 Vegas to Reno, completing the race in 8:19:14 and narrowly defeating Can-Am racer Cody Bradbury.
Guthrie also finished second overall among all four-wheeled vehicles. The victory became another important result in Polaris RZR Factory Racing’s undefeated 2025 season, which included overall UTV wins at Dakar, King of the Hammers, the Mint 400, Vegas to Reno and every SCORE race the team entered.
Mitch Guthrie Jr. Wins 2025 Vegas to Reno UTV Overall
Vegas to Reno tested racers with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, extended high-speed sections, dry lake beds, mountain terrain, rocks and deep silt. Speeds reportedly climbed beyond 110 mph as the leading UTV teams fought for position across Nevada.
Guthrie remained near the front throughout the race, but corrected time kept the outcome unsettled until the finish. Bradbury, Guthrie and Polaris RZR Factory Racing driver Cayden MacCachren were separated by only 18 seconds around race mile 450.
MacCachren had initially adopted a more conservative strategy and remained outside the top 10 early in the race. As the field approached the mountains, he began closing the gap and eventually moved into the physical lead.
MacCachren Takes the Lead Before a Late-Race Problem
With approximately 25 miles remaining, MacCachren had built a 14-second lead on corrected time. That advantage disappeared when his RZR encountered a problem only two miles from the finish.
MacCachren and his team completed rapid repairs and reached the finish, but the delay opened the door for Guthrie and Bradbury. Guthrie attacked the final miles and ultimately recorded the fastest UTV time by the narrowest of margins.
A Nine-Second Vegas to Reno Finish
After more than eight hours of racing, Guthrie’s winning margin over Bradbury was only nine seconds. It was an exceptionally close finish for a long-distance desert race in which dust, traffic, heat, navigation and mechanical durability can create gaps measured in minutes rather than seconds.

Vegas to Reno placed a different set of demands on the machine than the slower rock obstacles found at King of the Hammers or the varied terrain of Baja. Sustained triple-digit speeds, heat, silt and repeated impacts required both performance and reliability over hundreds of racing miles.
Another Major Victory in Polaris’ Undefeated 2025 Season
Guthrie’s Vegas to Reno win was part of a remarkable season for the RZR Pro R Factory program. Brock Heger began the year with victories at the Dakar Rally and King of the Hammers before winning the 2025 Mint 400 UTV overall.
Polaris then carried that momentum into the SCORE Desert Championship. Heger won the 2025 SCORE San Felipe 250, and the team followed with a 1-2-3 overall UTV sweep at the 2025 SCORE Baja 500.
Vegas to Reno represented another major milestone because it combined sustained high speeds with one of the closest finishes of the season. Guthrie’s victory also showed the depth of the Polaris racing program, with multiple drivers capable of competing for UTV overall wins.
