The ultralight aluminum construction of the APL35 makes it especially suitable for off-road and overlanding use. ICECO sent us their new APL35 Dual-Zone Fridge/Freezer to test out, so we decided to strap it down in our Kawasaki KRX 1000 and take it rock crawling at Sand Hollow in 104 F temps to see how it would perform.

Check out the video below to see what we put the APL35 in our off-road test.

After our extreme off-road test, we decided to take the APL35 along with us on a trip to Lake Powell. Once again, temperatures were extreme at 105 degrees F during the day and 80 degrees F for the overnight low.  Over a three-day period, we ran the APL35 off the boat’s 12V cigarette lighter during the day, then overnight connected to a Jackery 1000.

We set up the dual-zones both in refrigerator mode in both compartments so that our food could be separate from our drinks. The APL35 handled the extreme temperatures like a champ and it was very nice being able to keep our food & drinks at the desired temperatures without the hassle of dealing with ice. The cooler spent three days and two nights on the boat and never skipped a beat.

Testing the ICECO APL35 on Lake Powell

We did get two different thermometers so we could monitor the temperature of both zones, and we did find that the actual internal temperature was a few degrees higher than our setting on the APL35L. To reach our desired temp, we ended up lowering the setting and we achieved the temps we were looking for.
