CSC Polaris RZR Pro R Rock Kit: Expanding the Pro R’s Capability

Polaris RZR Pro R

The Polaris RZR Pro R has earned a reputation as one of the most capable sport UTVs ever built. Cedar Suspension Co.‘s Pro R Rock Kit doesn’t change what makes the Pro R exceptional—it enhances its versatility by addressing the suspension limitations that become apparent in technical rock terrain.

Rather than simply building stronger suspension components, Cedar Suspension Co. completely re-engineered key portions of the Pro R’s suspension to increase ground clearance, eliminate vulnerable hang-up points, and improve durability where rock crawlers need it most. The result is a suspension system that broadens the Pro R’s capabilities, making it even more confident in technical terrain while preserving the high-speed performance that has made it a benchmark in the sport UTV segment. The complete CSC Pro R Rock Kit includes everything needed to transform the factory suspension into a more capable all-around package.

Built to Dominate the Desert

The Polaris RZR Pro R has earned its reputation as one of the most capable high-performance sport side-by-sides ever built. Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter ProStar Fury engine producing 225 horsepower, the Pro R was engineered to cover ground at incredible speeds while maintaining stability, control, and rider confidence.

A 74-inch-wide stance provides exceptional stability across rough terrain, while Polaris’ MaxLink suspension delivers 27 inches of usable front travel and an industry-leading 29 inches of rear travel. Fully boxed steel front A-arms, stout boxed trailing arms with Polaris’ patented rear toe link, and FOX® 3.0 Live Valve X2 Internal Bypass shocks work together to keep the vehicle planted while soaking up whoops, rocks, and high-speed desert terrain.

The available DYNAMIX DV active suspension system takes performance even further by monitoring driver inputs and vehicle movement hundreds of times every second. It automatically adjusts both compression and rebound damping independently, helping maximize traction and control whether charging across sand dunes or attacking fast desert trails.

It’s an incredibly capable package—and one that excels in the environments it was primarily designed for.

But rock crawling presents a very different challenge.

Instead of absorbing high-speed impacts, the suspension must clear tall ledges, slide over boulders, and avoid hanging vulnerable suspension components on obstacles. In technical terrain, suspension clearance often becomes more important than suspension travel, and that’s exactly where Cedar Suspension Co.’s engineers saw an opportunity to improve the Pro R.

Designed Around Real Rock-Crawling Challenges

Anyone who has driven a Pro R through places like Sand Hollow, Moab, or the Rubicon knows that large rocks, ledges, and other trail obstacles can contact the factory suspension before the tires ever reach the obstacle. When that happens, traction is lost and climbs become more difficult.

Instead of simply reinforcing factory components, Cedar Suspension Co. focused on redesigning the suspension layout to move vulnerable components out of harm’s way while significantly increasing ground clearance where it matters most.

Cedar Suspension Co. redesigned both the front and rear suspension systems specifically to improve the Pro R’s capability in technical terrain.

The stock shock fork design has been eliminated, allowing for an impressive 4″ of added ground clearance with the lower control arms

Four Inches More Ground Clearance Up Front

One of the biggest improvements comes from the front suspension.

The factory Pro R uses a lower shock fork arrangement that occupies valuable space beneath the suspension. Cedar Suspension Co. eliminates this design entirely by relocating the lower shock mounting point directly onto the lower control arm.

This redesigned configuration provides approximately 4 inches of additional ground clearance beneath the front suspension, allowing the Pro R to slide over obstacles that would normally contact the factory suspension.

Beyond the added ground clearance, the new design eliminates the factory lower shock fork—a known weak point in the Pro R’s front suspension. By mounting the shock directly to the lower control arm, Cedar Suspension Co. creates a stronger, more robust suspension package while also improving shock durability for demanding off-road conditions.

For riders who regularly encounter large boulder fields, the additional front suspension clearance helps the Pro R climb over terrain that might otherwise contact the factory suspension.

In the rear, the factory toe link setup is removed and replaced with a fixed toe link integrated directly into the trailing arm. This change results in a massive 3.5″ increase in rear ground clearance

A Smarter Rear Suspension Design

The rear suspension receives an equally significant redesign.

On the factory Pro R, a long toe link runs forward from the rear hub through the center of the trailing arm. Accommodating that linkage requires a relatively deep trailing arm that can become a hang-up point when climbing rock ledges and other large obstacles.

Cedar Suspension Co. takes a completely different approach by dramatically shortening the toe link and integrating it into a newly engineered trailing arm. This allows the trailing arm to be much slimmer in the area directly in front of the rear tire while increasing ground clearance by approximately 3.5 inches, creating significantly more clearance where it matters most.

That added clearance helps the suspension climb over ledges instead of striking them. Rather than having the trailing arm contact the obstacle and unload the rear tire, the redesigned arm allows the tire to stay engaged with the rock for improved traction.

Heavy-Duty Construction for Real Abuse

Rock crawling places unique demands on suspension components. Repeated impacts against rocks, ledges, and uneven terrain require more than additional ground clearance—they demand suspension components engineered to withstand years of abuse.

Like the rest of Cedar Suspension Co.’s product line, the Pro R Rock Kit is hand TIG welded in the USA using premium specialty steels selected for demanding off-road applications. Every component is engineered to withstand the punishment associated with aggressive trail riding and technical rock crawling while maintaining precise suspension alignment.

The company also incorporates internal and external gusseting, precision laser-cut components, and grooved Delrin bushings throughout its suspension systems to maximize strength, durability, and long-term performance.

More Than Just Stronger Suspension

Many aftermarket suspension kits focus primarily on increasing strength or adding travel.

The Pro R Rock Kit takes a different approach.

Instead of simply replacing factory components with heavier versions, Cedar Suspension Co. redesigned the suspension layout to improve ground clearance, reduce vulnerable contact points, and help the vehicle maintain traction in technical terrain. Every design decision was made with real-world rock crawling in mind.

That philosophy reflects Cedar Suspension Co.’s overall engineering approach: build suspension systems that solve real problems encountered on the trail.

Built for Technical Trails

While Cedar Suspension Co. also offers suspension packages optimized for high-speed desert riding, the Pro R Rock Kit is purpose-built to give the Pro R greater confidence in slow, technical terrain without significantly affecting the qualities that make it exceptional in the desert.

Whether navigating the slickrock of Sand Hollow, climbing waterfalls around Moab, or exploring remote mountain trails filled with boulders and ledges, the revised suspension design allows the Pro R to clear obstacles that would challenge the factory suspension.

Instead of worrying about dragging suspension components across every obstacle, drivers can focus on choosing the best line while maintaining traction through the climb. The result is a vehicle that inspires more confidence on difficult trails while preserving the high-speed capability that defines the Pro R.

While the fixed toe link eliminates the factory dynamic toe adjustment and introduces some toe variation throughout the suspension cycle, the difference is negligible from the driver’s seat. The trade-off is well worth the gain in strength and clearance for aggressive trail and rock riders.

Final Thoughts

The Polaris RZR Pro R is already one of the most capable performance UTVs available, but technical rock terrain exposes a few compromises that come with designing a machine intended to perform well in every environment.

Cedar Suspension Co.‘s Pro R Rock Kit addresses those compromises by fundamentally rethinking how the suspension interacts with rocks and ledges. With approximately four inches of additional front ground clearance, a redesigned rear trailing arm that dramatically improves clearance in front of the rear tires, a shortened toe link, and approximately 3.5 inches of additional rear ground clearance, the Rock Kit expands the Pro R’s capabilities without compromising what made it one of the best sport UTVs on the market in the first place.

The result is a more well-rounded Polaris RZR Pro R—one that retains its legendary desert performance while adding the clearance, durability, and traction needed to tackle technical terrain with greater confidence.

While this article focuses on the Polaris RZR Pro R, Cedar Suspension Co. also offers a similar Rock Kit for the Polaris RZR Pro S. The Pro S package incorporates the same engineering philosophy, increasing suspension clearance and improving capability in technical terrain while preserving the machine’s outstanding all-around performance.
