Polaris has quietly added a new mud-focused utility side-by-side to its 2027 model range. The 2027 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition combines the familiar 82-horsepower RANGER XP 1000 platform with arched suspension arms, 29-inch mud tires, raised air intakes and a high-mounted winch.
The new Mud Edition follows a factory mud-machine formula Polaris previously developed through its RZR and RANGER High Lifter models. See how those vehicles evolved in our history of Polaris High Lifter and Mud Edition UTVs.
Unlike the headline-grabbing 2027 Polaris RZR Pro R Boost and substantially updated 2027 Polaris XPEDITION, the new Mud Edition was not highlighted in Polaris’ initial model-year press material. It is nevertheless one of the most significant additions to the 2027 Polaris RANGER lineup.

A Factory-Prepared Mud Package
The RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition is based on Polaris’ established full-size utility platform, but the factory mud package addresses several areas that owners typically modify before entering deep mud or water.
High-mounted air-intake snorkels help keep water and debris away from the engine and clutch system. The vehicle also receives a large mud-specific front bumper carrying a high-mounted 4,500-pound winch. Its elevated position should make the winch easier to access when the lower portion of the vehicle is buried in mud.
The winch includes synthetic rope, an auto-stop fairlead and a wireless remote. A full-coverage skid plate and A-arm guards provide additional protection underneath the vehicle.
Arched A-Arms and 14 Inches of Clearance
Dual arched A-arms are fitted at both ends of the Mud Edition. They provide additional clearance around obstacles and reduce the likelihood of the suspension becoming hung up in deep ruts.
Suspension travel measures 10 inches front and rear, while ground clearance increases to 14 inches. That is particularly useful in churned-up mud where a conventional straight suspension arm can drag or catch before the tires find traction.
29-Inch Pro Armor Mud XC Tires
Polaris equips the Mud Edition with 29 x 10-14 Pro Armor Mud XC tires on 14-inch aluminum wheels. The same tire size is used at all four corners rather than pairing narrower front tires with wider rear tires.
The Mud XC tread uses widely spaced, angled lugs intended to clear soft material as the tire rotates. Polaris’ detailed specifications identify these tires as having a 10-ply rating.
The 29-inch tires contribute to the RANGER’s 14 inches of ground clearance while remaining relatively modest in diameter by dedicated mud-machine standards. This should help preserve steering response, driveline durability and general trail manners compared with installing much larger aftermarket tires.
82-Horsepower RANGER XP 1000 Power
Power comes from the familiar 999cc liquid-cooled ProStar twin-cylinder engine producing 82 horsepower. It is paired with Polaris’ Gen 2 PVT transmission and selectable on-demand all-wheel drive.
The drivetrain retains 2WD, AWD and VersaTrac Turf Mode. Keeping Turf Mode is notable because it allows the rear differential to unlock for tighter turns and reduced damage to grass or other sensitive surfaces. That gives the Mud Edition more everyday utility than a machine configured solely for mud riding.
Still Built to Work
Although its suspension, tires and intake system target recreational mud riding, the new model retains the core capability expected from a full-size RANGER.
The gas-assisted dump box carries up to 1,000 pounds and incorporates Polaris Lock & Ride accessory mounting points. Total payload capacity is rated at 1,500 pounds, while the standard two-inch receiver supports a 2,500-pound towing capacity.
The three-seat model has an estimated dry weight of 1,665 pounds and an 11.5-gallon fuel tank. Its 62.5-inch overall width is unchanged from the standard full-size RANGER XP 1000 platform.
2027 Polaris RANGER Shop Talk Video
This Polaris Shop Talk video provides a closer look at the new RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition and explains several of the other important updates across the 2027 Polaris RANGER lineup.
How It Relates to the RANGER High Lifter Edition
The Mud Edition occupies territory previously covered by the Polaris RANGER XP 1000 High Lifter Edition. The 2019 High Lifter model paired the same basic 82-horsepower engine output with arched A-arms, raised air intakes and aggressive Outlaw 2 mud tires.
However, Polaris describes the 2027 vehicle simply as the RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition. It should therefore be viewed as a successor in concept rather than a continuation of the High Lifter-branded model.
The new version also takes a somewhat more balanced approach. Its 29-inch Pro Armor Mud XC tires, 14 inches of ground clearance, Turf Mode and intact work ratings make it a mud-ready RANGER that can still perform conventional utility and trail duties.
Three- and Six-Seat Mud Editions
Polaris offers the Mud Edition in both three-seat RANGER XP 1000 and six-seat RANGER CREW XP 1000 configurations. The three-seat version starts at $23,799, while the RANGER CREW XP 1000 Mud Edition starts at $25,999. Destination, setup, taxes and registration are additional.
Both are offered in Onyx Black with red accents. Red hood and snorkel covers, model-specific graphics and matching suspension details distinguish the Mud Edition from the standard XP 1000.
First Take
The 2027 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition fills a clear position in the lineup. It provides the raised intakes, mud tires, arched suspension and recovery equipment many mud riders would otherwise add after purchase, while retaining the cargo, towing and Turf Mode features that make the RANGER useful away from a mud park.
Its closest historical comparison is the RANGER High Lifter Edition, but the new model’s more moderate tire package suggests Polaris is aiming for a broader mix of mud, trail and utility use. The result appears to be a practical factory mud package rather than an extreme, single-purpose build.
Polaris has published additional model details on the official 2027 RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition page.
