2027 Polaris RANGER Lineup: New Mud Edition, Trail Boss, RANGER 600 and Returning Kinetic

The 2027 Polaris RANGER lineup includes more changes than Polaris initially revealed in its primary model-year announcement. Along with the new RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition, Polaris has renamed and updated its midsize platform, brought the electric RANGER XP Kinetic back into the lineup and transformed the NorthStar Trail Boss Edition into a more trail-focused machine.

The broader lineup still ranges from the compact RANGER 600 to the heavy-duty RANGER XD 1500, with gasoline, electric, open-cab and fully enclosed NorthStar configurations. However, the most interesting news for 2027 is found in four specific models that received little attention when Polaris first announced its new 2027 UTV lineup.

What Is New in the 2027 Polaris RANGER Lineup?

  • RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition: A new factory mud package with 29-inch tires, raised air intakes, arched A-arms and a high-mounted winch.
  • RANGER 600: The updated replacement for the RANGER SP 570 name, retaining its 567cc engine and 44-horsepower output.
  • RANGER XP Kinetic: Polaris’ electric utility side-by-side returns exclusively in Ultimate trim after a two-model-year absence.
  • NorthStar Trail Boss Edition: A substantially revised model that exchanges some work-oriented equipment for adjustable Walker Evans shocks and a more recreational trail configuration.

2027 Polaris RANGER 600

2027 Polaris RANGER 600

RANGER 600 Replaces the SP 570 Name

The new RANGER 600 is best understood as a renamed and updated replacement for the RANGER SP 570 rather than an entirely new machine.

Its liquid-cooled 567cc ProStar single-cylinder engine continues to produce 44 horsepower. The compact platform also retains a 500-pound cargo-box capacity and 1,500-pound towing capacity, so the model’s underlying performance and work ratings remain familiar.

The most meaningful mechanical change is the introduction of Polaris’ Gen 2 transmission. Polaris says the updated shift system requires approximately 50 percent less effort, addressing one of the less refined aspects of the previous SP 570.

Power-steering versions also receive Polaris’ next-generation electric power steering system. Inside the cab, a new four-color display replaces the former monochrome gauge.

The RANGER 600 is available in two- and four-seat configurations, while the RANGER 600 NorthStar extends the midsize family into the enclosed-cab market. The open-cab RANGER 600 starts at $11,999, and the NorthStar family starts at $19,999.

The numerical change from 570 to 600 brings the name into line with Polaris’ current displacement-class branding. However, buyers should not interpret the new badge as evidence of a larger engine or a major increase in power.

2027 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition

2027 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition

RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition Is the New Model

The only completely new RANGER variant among these updates is the 2027 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 Mud Edition.

Built on the 82-horsepower RANGER XP 1000 platform, the Mud Edition adds front and rear arched A-arms, 29-inch Pro Armor Mud XC tires, raised engine and clutch air intakes, a mud-specific front bumper and a high-mounted 4,500-pound winch.

The winch includes synthetic rope, a wireless remote and an auto-stop fairlead. Its elevated location should also make it easier to reach when the front of the vehicle is buried in mud.

Despite the mud-focused equipment, Polaris retains Turf Mode, a 1,000-pound cargo-box capacity and 2,500-pound towing capacity. This makes the new model less specialized than some extreme mud builds and allows it to continue serving as a conventional work and trail vehicle.

The three-seat Mud Edition starts at $23,799, while the six-seat RANGER CREW XP 1000 Mud Edition starts at $25,999.

2027 RANGER XP Kinetic

2027 RANGER XP Kinetic

RANGER XP Kinetic Returns for 2027

The electric RANGER XP Kinetic returns after being absent from the previous two model-year lineups. For 2027, Polaris is offering it exclusively in the dual-battery Ultimate configuration.

The XP Kinetic remains powered by a 110-horsepower electric motor producing 140 lb-ft of torque. Polaris rates the Ultimate model for up to 80 miles of estimated range and a 45-mile-per-hour top speed.

Its work ratings remain competitive with gasoline-powered RANGER models:

  • 1,250-pound cargo-box capacity
  • 1,500-pound payload capacity
  • 2,500-pound towing capacity
  • 14 inches of ground clearance

The returning model receives updated electrical architecture and the current full-size RANGER front-end styling. Heavy Metal is a new color choice, while camouflage also returns as an available finish.

The Kinetic’s greatest advantages continue to be its quiet operation, immediate low-speed torque and reduced routine maintenance. Those characteristics are particularly useful around livestock, hunting property and worksites where engine noise can be disruptive.

The 2027 RANGER XP Kinetic Ultimate starts at $37,499. For driving impressions and a more detailed analysis of its electric powertrain, see our Polaris RANGER XP Kinetic first-ride review.

2027 Polaris RANGER NorthStar Trail Boss

2027 Polaris RANGER NorthStar Trail Boss

NorthStar Trail Boss Becomes a Trail Machine

The 2027 RANGER XP 1000 NorthStar Trail Boss Edition is not a new name, but its revised equipment represents a major change in direction.

Earlier Trail Boss configurations emphasized a mixture of work capability and improved performance over uneven terrain. For 2027, Polaris has moved the model more decisively toward recreational trail riding.

The most important addition is a set of Walker Evans piggyback needle shocks with 16-position compression adjustment. This gives owners the ability to tune the suspension for different loads, speeds and trail conditions.

Other trail-oriented features include:

  • Front and rear arched A-arms
  • 14 inches of ground clearance
  • Rear-facing white cargo and trail light
  • Black, red and topographic graphics
  • 4,500-pound winch

The model retains the comfort equipment expected from a NorthStar Ultimate, including a factory-installed cab with heating and air conditioning, a seven-inch display powered by RIDE COMMAND and integrated JBL audio.

Just as important as the added equipment is what Polaris removed. The 2027 Trail Boss no longer includes Active Descent Control or the self-leveling rear suspension previously associated with the package.

Those deletions reinforce the change in purpose. Instead of compensating automatically for changing cargo loads and assisting with controlled descents during work, the new version gives the driver adjustable performance shocks intended for a more recreational trail experience.

The three-seat RANGER XP 1000 NorthStar Trail Boss Edition starts at $35,799. A six-seat CREW version is also available.

2027 Polaris RANGER Shop Talk Video

This Polaris Shop Talk video provides a walkaround of the 2027 lineup and explains the reasoning behind the RANGER 600 name, the return of the XP Kinetic and the new direction of the NorthStar Trail Boss Edition.

RANGER 1000 and XP 1000 Continue as the Core Models

The RANGER 1000 and RANGER XP 1000 remain the center of the full-size gasoline lineup.

The 61-horsepower RANGER 1000 starts at $14,499 and provides a lower-cost entry into the full-size platform. The 82-horsepower RANGER XP 1000 starts at $21,799 and supports a broader selection of premium and terrain-specific editions.

The XP 1000 family now includes standard open-cab models, NorthStar editions, the NorthStar Trail Boss, the new Mud Edition and the six-seat Texas Edition. That gives the XP 1000 the widest variety of configurations in the 2027 RANGER range.

Also continuing for 2027 is the RANGER XP 1000 CAB, an enclosed-cab model that sits below the more extensively equipped NorthStar versions.

Polaris RANGER XD 1500 NorthStar Premium

2027 Polaris RANGER XD 1500 NorthStar Premium

RANGER XD 1500 Remains the Work Flagship

The RANGER XD 1500 NorthStar remains Polaris’ most work-focused side-by-side. Its 1,498cc three-cylinder engine produces 110 horsepower and is paired with the STEELDRIVE transmission rather than the conventional belt-driven PVT used by most of the lineup.

The XD 1500 is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds and carry 1,500 pounds in its cargo box. Those figures establish a noticeable capability gap between it and the RANGER 1000 and XP 1000 families.

The 2027 RANGER XD 1500 NorthStar starts at $41,499. The six-seat NorthStar Texas Edition starts at $53,999 and sits at the top of the RANGER price range.

First Take on the 2027 RANGER Lineup

The 2027 Polaris RANGER lineup does not revolve around a single ground-up redesign. Instead, Polaris has filled gaps and repositioned several models for more clearly defined buyers.

The new Mud Edition creates a factory-prepared option for riders who would otherwise add tires, snorkels, arched suspension arms and recovery equipment themselves. The RANGER 600 modernizes the SP 570 without overstating the extent of the underlying changes. Bringing back the XP Kinetic restores an electric option, while the reworked NorthStar Trail Boss creates a distinctive enclosed-cab trail model.

Together, these updates give the 2027 range more variety than Polaris’ initial announcement suggested. Buyers can now choose among compact, full-size, extreme-duty, mud-focused, trail-focused and electric RANGER models, with starting prices ranging from $11,999 to more than $53,000.
