999cc Kawasaki Parallel-Twin Engine
The MULE PRO-FX 1000 HD is powered by Kawasaki’s liquid-cooled, four-stroke 999cc parallel-twin engine. The dual-overhead-cam engine is tuned to deliver the low- and midrange torque needed for hauling, towing and low-speed operation rather than the aggressive power delivery of a sport UTV.
A continuously variable transmission provides high, low, neutral and reverse ranges. Drivers can select two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, while the dual-mode rear differential can be locked when maximum traction is needed or unlocked to reduce turf damage and make tight turns easier.
Large Cargo Bed With Hydraulic Lift
The long cargo bed is the most important difference between the MULE PRO-FX 1000 HD and Kawasaki’s shorter-bed MULE PRO-FXR models. Measuring approximately 54.1 inches long, 53.3 inches wide and 11 inches deep, it provides roughly 20 square feet of cargo space.
The bed is large enough to carry a standard-size wooden pallet with the tailgate closed. Its 1,000-pound capacity makes the machine suitable for hauling tools, feed, fencing materials, firewood and other heavy cargo.
A switch-operated hydraulic lift helps raise the loaded bed for dumping. The lift switch is located on the left side beneath the cargo bed.
How the Self-Leveling Rear Suspension Works
The 2025 MULE PRO-FX 1000 HD uses a self-leveling rear suspension system to help maintain its intended ride height when cargo is added. Keeping the rear of the vehicle from sagging excessively helps preserve steering response, braking balance and ground clearance with a heavy load in the bed.
The system operates mechanically through the movement of the rear shocks. Normal suspension movement pumps oil within the system until the vehicle returns to the proper ride height. It does not require an electronic controller or onboard air compressor.
After the cargo is removed, a release circuit allows the suspension to gradually return to its unloaded setting. The leveling process requires the vehicle to move, so the rear suspension may not adjust immediately while the MULE is stationary.
Suspension, Steering and Brakes
Double-wishbone suspension is used at all four corners, with approximately 11 inches of front travel and 10 inches of rear travel. Maximum ground clearance is 11.9 inches.
Speed-sensitive Electric Power Steering reduces steering effort at low speeds while retaining a more connected feel as vehicle speed increases. Hydraulic disc brakes are fitted at all four wheels, and a separate mechanical parking brake helps secure the MULE when stopped on uneven terrain.
Cab and Standard Equipment
The wide bench seat accommodates as many as three occupants. A tilt-adjustable steering wheel and spacious footwells help drivers of different sizes find a comfortable position.
HD Edition equipment includes a plastic roof, rear bumper, rearview mirror and additional under-seat storage. The multifunction display provides vehicle speed, fuel level, odometer, hour meter, clock, trip meters, drivetrain status and warning indicators.

Who Is the MULE PRO-FX 1000 HD For?
The MULE PRO-FX 1000 HD makes the most sense for an owner who needs a full-size utility vehicle with a large fixed cargo bed and frequently carries heavy loads. The self-leveling suspension and hydraulic bed lift are particularly useful for property maintenance, agriculture and commercial work.
Buyers who need seating for up to six people should instead consider the convertible MULE PRO-FXT series. Those who place greater emphasis on trail use and compact dimensions may prefer the shorter MULE PRO-FXR 1000.
