The new 2024 Can-Am Maverick R in August of 2023 and I immediately put my name on one at MotoExpo. With the release, Can-Am touted several features on the Maverick R including an industry-leading 240-horsepower engine, 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), and last but not least, a very unique suspension design.
I attended the press intro and for that, Can-Am took us to Nevada to run some of the Vegas to Reno course up near Hawthorne and Fallon:
Once we go our unit, we got right to work! We took the new Can-Am Maverick R out to the Rubicon (rock crawling) and Sand Mountain (dunes) to get a better sense of how this new platform would perform.
While the Can-Am Maverick R is quite impressive out of the box, I always like to customize our UTVs. A few items are always top priorities: Communications (Rugged Radios), Seats (PRP) and Shock Upgrades (Shock Therapy). After that, we added mirrors (with lights), street legal kit, cage, suspension, skid plate, winch and some performance upgrades.
- Alsup Racing Development – suspension and cage
- Evolution Powersports – exhaust, BOV, fuel rail, charge tune, ECU & DCT tune
- Shock Therapy – springs, valving, limit straps, radius rods
- MRT Tires – 35-inch Rocky RX tires (dirt)
- System 3 Off-Road – SS360 Tires (sand)
- PRP Seats – heated seats, harnesses
- Rugged Radios – intercom and radio
- Sector Seven – Lighted mirrors
