2016 High Lifter Mud Nationals

2016 Mud Nationals

Looking for an event that allows you to let your hair down and not worry about how fantastically clean your big rig looks on the trailer? Not scared to take your friends out to the woods and make them ride their big money rigs into the deep stuff? Many very nice UTV’s rolled into the gates at Mud Creek Park just a few days back to help High Lifter Products and owner Scott Smith and his crew of workhorses continue the tradition of the High Lifter Mud Nationals. This event was first set into motion by his father Mike Smith and High Lifter front man Dan Doughty. These two derived the plan over 14 years ago to get all of their forum members and good friends together for a ride. It’s also possible that Mike wanted to show off the very first ATV lift for the industry that he and his son Scott Smith had come up with.

At the High Lifter ATV Mud Nationals presented by Polaris you will find everything from crazy machines to great local and regional foods. This years event saw many new changes and improvements of the flow of the event including massive new vendor areas. Possibly the biggest spot was held by Arctic Cat though as they vowed to reintroduce their brand to the mud and riding world in a big way over the next few years. Arctic Cat had announced their sponsorship of the Mudda-cross event as well as the Poker Run in a mighty show of their hand.

2-Stroke Arctic Cat Wildcat Sport

Their Arctic Cat race team was out in full force and one machine in particular received much attention due to its familiar two stroke ping and incredible tire twisting power.

Most of the regular events were still in place but had somewhat of a face lift to give the extra punch to freshen up the show. The Show-N-Shine is a “car show” of sorts and it has always garnered very radical builds as well as team efforts to get the voters attention. This year each contestant drove up onto the big stage and had the chance to tell just a little about their rig. It just gives a little more spotlight to each builder and their sponsors.

Getting a chance to spin the big wheel was yet another great addition to get the crowds ramped up. Each person would spin the prize wheel after being harassed by the guy on the mic. MB Quart was the primary sponsor of this event and many of the on-site vendors gave up nice prizes as well. This “Wheel of Fortune” of sorts was a huge hit and people gathered all day each day as they churned the wheel at least twice a day.

This years racing schedule included the endurance race as well as the mudda-cross but one event took place on Saturday and it really got the crowds going. The UTV MX style racing that took place has grown tremendously since last year’s exhibition. The ATV’s were cut from the competition and the track was cut open to give the UTV’s as much room as they needed to go two and three wide in some areas. This is expected to grow each year and by the crowds response I’m sure it will.
