TheNavassa Volunteer Fire Department applied to US Smokeless Tobacco’sOperation Ranger Program in 2004 and was awarded a Polaris Ranger UTV in June of 2005. The vehicle arrived to the Department red in color. A small utility trailer was purchased to tow the vehicle to calls. The Department decided to complete the vehicle conversion to firefighting vehicle in-house and save money. Chief Williams contacted Pro Poly and worked directly with factory engineers on a custom 80 gallon tank and skid. Darley Fire Equipment worked directly with the Department on choosing the right pump, and the Darley Davey was selected. The plumbing and valves were purchased at the local Lowes Home Improvement Center. The skid unit was assembled and mounted on the unit. The fire radio was added in the glove box to protect it from the elements.
