Smith Valley Fire District provides UTV service

The Smith Valley Fire Protection District has incorporated the use of a Yamaha Rhino all-terrain vehicle to assist with the delivery of emergency services to the resident of Smith Valley and Wellington.

The addition of this vehicle allows the volunteer firefighters/EMTs to be more mobile and capable of responding quickly to emergencies that are in extreme environments. The vehicle is equipped with communications equipment, first aid kit, oxygen, stretcher and a defibrillator.

Tom Spencer is the Smith Valley Fire Department's ATV trainer. All members of the department have to go through extensive ATV training which includes off-road hazards like rocks, hills, sand and high-speed operation.
