2011 Prowler 1000 Changes:

The Baja race-winning XTZ returns for 2011with an all-new
race-inspired round tube canopy, Electronic Power Steering (EPS), new
steering wheel, digital gauge and heavy-duty 14-in. aluminum wheels.
Electronic Power Steering – new to the Prowler XTZ for
2011 – enhance the 1000’s industry-leading handling.
Arctic Cat’s Variable Assist EPS allows steering
assistance to the XTZ before it even starts to move at
idle. This is a huge benefit to conserving the rider’s
input energy when in 4WD, especially when the
differential lock is engaged. Arctic Cat EPS reduces the
torque necessary to steer the XTZ when changing
direction with a loaded cargo box or navigating tough
obstacles like rocks, deep mud or logs.

Overview:
Arctic Cat has upped the ante in the UTV world by stuffing
their fuel-injected 950cc v-twin Thundercat engine in the 2009 Prowler. The
950cc v-twin hemi puts down some serious torque that completely blows away
other sport side x side vehicles that are currently available by Yamaha,
Polaris and Kawasaki.
Although the big bore power is the most exciting news for
the 2009 Prowler XTZ H2, the new Prowler side by side also sports a
completely new chassis that lowers the ride height, improves strength and
suspension.
This is groundbreaking news for those that thought the big
manufacturers were to scared of lawsuits to give consumers the power they
want. Let's hope that this trend continues with other manufacturers.
The H2 revolution of hemi-producing power will soon open a
new dimension in power to the ROV class. As you can imagine, the 1000 H2 EFI
has a potently powerful 951cc, SOHC, V-twin, liquid-cooled engine, designed
for a wide torque curve with the smoothest power via Electronic Fuel
Injection. Cold weather starting and changes in elevation are no longer an
issue.
Keeping true to Arctic Cat ATV heritage, the Prowler was designed to conquer
any job when it comes to storage and hauling capacities. Lift the hood on
any Prowler XTZ and you will find a storage compartment that can hold 25lbs
of hunting supplies, tools, and can double as a cooler to store ice. The
composite cargo bed has a brand new box latch for easier box dumping so you
can throw in 600lbs. of the harshest payloads and the Prowler won’t even
whimper.
Other amenities of the Prowler XTZ include a sport bumper and fascia,
all-new cast aluminum 14” wheels with black painted inlays with 26x9R14
Maxxis RAZR front tires and 26x11R14 Maxxis RAZRs in the rear for the
ultimate in offroad traction. Arctic Cat accessories come standard in the
form of nerf bars, box rails, rear view mirror, hood scoop and Pro Grip
steering wheel. All this packaged in Sunset Orange Metallic automotive paint
that can be buffed and waxed.

I had the Prowler 1000 up to 65 mph before lifting. I can easily
believe that it can hit 75 mph. With a stock roll cage and nothing but a
shoulder harness, 65 mph was fast enough for me.
Engine:
The heart of the new Prowler XTZ 1000 is a fuel-injected , 90-degree twin
cylinder, hemispherical combustion chamber, single overhead cam (SOHC), with four
valves per cylinder. Displacement is 950 cc, which makes it the
current king of UTV engines. The engine gurus at Arctic Cat developed it for
maximum torque with two valves per cam lobe and forked rocker arms.
Arctic Cat claims 188 ft. lb. at the crankshaft. and a rumored 70+
horsepower. The 90-degree angle of the cylinders is an ideal balance to
minimize vibration since each cylinder offsets the other. Parallel twin
designs like what you find in the Polaris RZR need extra counter-balancing
for their twin cylinder 760cc.

There is more good news. This engine is not new. Arctic Cat
put it in their Thundercat 1000 ATV in 2007.
The cylinder head design on the H2 engine (Prowler 1000) is
the same as the H1 (Prowler 700).

Suspension & Ground Clearance:

The Prowler XTZ leads the way with 10” of ground clearance and 10” of
suspension travel front and rear. Performance-minded front and rear gas
charged shocks with monotube design, soak up every bit of terrain thrown at
it.
The stance and suspension were race-bred and performance-calibrated with
additional ride-in. What is ride-in? The Prowler XTZ will squat roughly 2
inches (depending on driver/passenger sizes) while providing 10” of ground
clearance and 10” of suspension travel. The lower ride height and center of
gravity inspire riding confidence in aggressive cornering and high speed
handling. All that new found horsepower needs to be harnessed, so the
engineering staff, improved the suspension geometry and added gas charged
monotube shocks for higher performance and less fade.
The Prowler XTZ also has a seat height that is 2 1/2" lower than the
Prowler XTX, but a ground clearance that has dropped to 10".

Ground Clearance - Prowler 1000 = 10", Prowler 700 = 12"
Engine Cooling:

The radiator and oil cooler on the Prowler 1000 are larger than the
Prowler 700.
Digital Instrument Pod:
Displays up to 14 critical operation information
indicators including: clock/hour meter, fuel level, mode button, set/reset
button, odometer/trip, gear position, speedometer/tachometer, needle
display, differential lock, drive select, high beam, battery condition,
temperature and oil pressure.

Other New Stuff:
The XTZ 1000 sports an all new chassis. A-arms and roll cage from a
Prowler 700 will not bolt up to a Prowler 1000.
Air intake system has been rerouted and re-engineered to the forward
compartment which helps keep noise levels down, and helps keep the filter
cleaner. The XTZ will have a pre-filter to help filter out some of the
big stuff before hitting the normal air filter.
Parking brake is now operated by a hand lever instead of foot pedal.
Axle half shafts are larger.
Roll cage is now ROPS certified.
New clutch calibration – different rollers and weights for increased
acceleration.
Brand new outboard-mounted rear disk brakes provide positive stopping
performance while the hand-operated parking brake located on the center
console keeps you planted while parked.
To handle the 1000 H2’s enormous power output, Arctic Cat has engineered
a rear differential to deliver maximum power to the tires with minimum
driveline wear. Arctic Cat integrated what it refers
to as a "spike load dampener" into the rear differential. Essentially what
that does is limit the amount of torque put on the rear axle by allowing the
differential to slip at peak torque output rather than disintegrating.
The Prowler XTZ has a front locking 4wd differential with a new,
all-in-one 2wd/4wd/Diff Lock rocker switch button for quick engagement
shifting and rear mounted swaybar for improved trail driving.
Keeping true to Arctic Cat ATV heritage, the Prowler was designed to
conquer any job when it comes to storage and hauling capacities. Lift the
hood on any Prowler and you will find a storage compartment that can hold
25lbs of hunting supplies, tools, and can double as a cooler to store ice.
The composite cargo bed has a brand new box latch for easier box dumping so
you can throw in 600lbs. of the harshest payloads and the Prowler won’t even
whimper.
Safety:
The Prowler 1000 XTZ will be outfitted with a new seat belt that includes
a shoulder belt. The XTZ is the only Prowler that will have the
shoulder belt for 2009.
